I went shopping for us today!

This morning was such a gray, cold yucky day and there was only one thing I could do to get out of the gray funk- pin up my hair, slick on some red lips and go shopping! It's been a while since we last went to my favorite antique shop for costume jewelry, so we went there but I had you in mind too, my lovely readers. I went out in search of a few particular items for my very first giveaway, which will start as soon as my blog reaches 100 followers! *yay* I'm so excited!! But, I'm keeping those things a secret till the time comes cause I'm a tease, I guess! This particular antique mall is my heaven for jewelry. I bought 3 pairs of earrings pictured here. Even though they aren't the real deal, I loved these fakelite clip on hoops. Now that Olivia is really starting to grab and pull things, I think clip ons will be my earring of choice for a while.
This place is so overwhelming, I don't know what to do with myself. According to the Discovery Channel show, Tuna Wranglers, when tuna fish are caught and weighed, the fish's eyes are covered and they are lightly patted on the side to calm them down. My husband calls me "tuna" because when we go to fabric stores, antique shops and places like that, I go all crazy and get overly excited and forget what I was looking for. He covers my eyes and pats my back to try to calm me just like the tuna! hehe!

Anyways, while on my top secret shopping trip, I picked up this 1940's cardigan knitting book. I've been needing some quiet activities to do while my little one naps and what better way to spend my time than to knit some fabulous vintage cardigans and sweaters.

Today, was my first attempt at the faux bang with victory rolls, which was actually much easier than I thought it would be and shockingly, I didn't get any "you look like a crazy person" stares. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I go out, the old ladies really get a kick out of my style. One little ol' gal today said "you look so sweet, my sister used to do her hair like that." hehe, how cute!
Oh, this makes me sad- while shopping, I saw a case that had 4 bracelets inside, marked "bakelite" for $25. I was so excited but a little nervous that they weren't authentic. I totally got my hopes up only to be let down when I did the rub n' sniff test. One was wood and the other 3 were plastic. One was so clearly NOT bakelite because it had the tell-tale plastic seam! They were probably plastic bracelets from the 80's or something. They lied! I was SO sad. After moping around for a while longer and being inches away from buying some cat eye glasses to cheer myself up, we decided to go get some grub. O'Charley's has some killer southwest style chips. Olivia really enjoyed her first taste of diet Pepsi. mmmmmmm!!

  1. That antique shop looks so fun! I love the yellow earrings especially

  2. Your hair looks absolutely fabulous! And i love those earrings too!

  3. your hair looks cute!
Yes you have to be careful about bakelite sadly.I can't tell you how many times I've been in an antique mall and had to walk up to the counter and slam an item down and school them on bakelite and how it's not ok to mislabel things even of on accident cause it makes them look like they don't know what they're talking about.

  4. HAHa, LOVE the tuna reference! You look just so great. I agree that it is just awesome when you have golden gals just light up because of your vintage ensemble. Really special! Too bad about the fakelite, though.

  5. Yea, luckily, I bought the earrings knowing that they were fake. I just like em cause the look pretty! :) very sad about the bracelets! I hope that they tell that booth owner that they're idiots and need to know what they're selling before slapping a label on it! Luckily, I was a good girl and I learned all of the ways to tell the difference so I never made an unwise purchase! I taught my hubby how to spot real and fake stuff so while I'm on the hunt he helps me sniff and inspect things. I bet we look like a couple of crazies! hehe!

  6. hey mamacita! i gave you an award on my blog. come accept it!

  7. P.S. I agree about the bakelite! It is SO sad when people mislabel it. Or on ebay, it's the "Bakelite?!" well look at that giant seam.. What do you think!!?!?

But when you find it and it's not labeled at all.. that's the best! I found a really nice one for only $.99. It's gorgeous carved black! I'll be putting on Etsy this weekend. Yay!!

Oh and when I found, I did the sniff test and almost screamed! Ha!

    Love your blog, gorgeous.

  8. Okay ONE more... what store is that?! The church store?!
