Summer Teen Fashions from May 1955

I've been planning some summer sewing projects for myself and I've found a lot of wonderful inspiration in my old magazines. Here's a look inside American Girl Magazine from 1955. American Girl was a Girl Scout Magazine and has a lot of ads for branded Girl Scout clothing and accessories, fashion articles and teen comics. This issue had several adorable vintage swim suits and beautiful summer sun dresses.

Free Pattern: 1950s Dress with Detachable Capelet Knitting Pattern

free vintage 1950s knitting pattern dress with triangle pockets and capelet

I've never had the patience to knit an entire dress before but this 1957 ensemble is one I would make an exception for. The elegant shape of the pencil dress is elevated with a detachable capelet and fabulous triangle pockets at the hips. The waist cinches with a matching belt. If anything, I may have to make a capelet (or two...or three..) to pair with dresses and skirts that I already have.

This dress comes in size 32-38 inch bust but if you need help resizing this pattern, check the bottom of this post for vintage knitting resources.
