Lately, I've been spending all afternoon at the dining table, sewing tiny, beautiful Barbie fashions, watching old movies. It's really keeping me motivated to hurry up and finish so I can sew clothes for myself. This week, I had a little Marilyn movie marathon and particularly paid attention to the wonderful costumes in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which has an equal mix of fabulous show girl costumes and things that we could actually wear daily and it's such a funny movie.  Here's some beautiful Gentlemen Prefer Blondes inspiration with sewing patterns from Mrs. Depew Vintage. Lorelei's purple dress
This curve hugging dress can be re-made in to two versatile pieces with this 1950s slim fit French pencil skirt and 1950s French blouse with V shaped accent and cuffed 3/4 sleeves. Pair it with a belt and matching gold cuff bracelets

Dorothy's Suits and Jackets
Dorothy is going on vacation and she packed for glamorous relaxation with curve hugging pants, halter tops and coordinating swing jackets in fun colors.   Use the depew beach bustier pattern (just lengthen the torso pieces) with purchased black cigarette pants and fabulous beach jackets. The beach jacket pattern includes shorts to make Dorothy's blue set.

Lorelei and Dorothy's Gowns
There's so many glittering gowns and costumes in this movie but I really love these two. Use this beautiful pattern with shirring down the front for  Lorelei's gown  in orange and this halter dress pattern for Dorothy's gown in black. You could lengthen the halter straps and cross them in the front to look more like Dorothy's.

Lorelei's black dress and leopard accessories
This is absolutely one of my favorite film costumes ever. It's not very revealing, it's simple fabric and a classic silhouette but it's such a show stopper!   cape or wrap in faux fur, long sleeve wiggle dress  with pin tucks at the waist, neckline and sleeves for nipping in in just the right places. The coat is not included in the pattern. Add a long feather to this fabulous hat and whip up a quick and easy muff with this easy video tutorial from A Vintage Vanity
