Today I have a beautiful giveaway from author Amy Barickman to start your 2015 sewing projects off on the right foot.

I discovered Amy's book, Vintage Notions a few years ago at a book store. I noticed the spine peeking out among other craft books so I took a peek inside. I wasn't planning to buy any books that day, as we were just window shopping but the beautiful pages, filled with 1920s crafts, sewing, recipes and gift ideas couldn't be left behind at the book store.  I look to Vintage Notions throughout the year for seasonal inspiration and I've even sewn a couple of the 1920s garments. It's one of my most loved and well-worn books- beautiful to set on the coffee table but irresistible to explore.

Today, Amy is giving away a copy of Vintage Notions and her new book, The Magic Pattern Book.

The Magic Pattern book includes 6 sewing patterns for garments and accessories, with instructions on how to alter each design to 6 different looks for a total of 36 stylish pieces. The Magic Pattern idea comes from the 1920s patterns from The Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences by Mary Brooks Picken, many of which are featured in Vintage Notions. These truly magical patterns are easily drafted at home with a few measurements, simple even for beginners.

These pattern designs are classic staples for the modern girl, which easily suit a vintage lover's wardrobe, if sewn in the right fabrics. The patterns are included on the book's CD in sizes S-XXL, along with styling ideas and recommended fabrics.

I really love the concept of this brilliant sewing book- a smart idea for the seamstress on a budget. The practical aspect of sewing a few basics to mix and match was a well-known trick for ladies of the past.  My grandmother, a housewife in the 60s, sewed all of her own clothes, trying to find simple patterns without expensive or tricky notions, sticking to a few basic patterns to save money, all features of the patterns here.

Be sure to check out Amy's website and blog for downloadable vintage sewing patterns, fashion ebooks, and vintage images for crafting

One lucky winner will receive a copy of both The Magic Pattern Book and Vintage Notions by Amy Barickman.

Giveaway is open worldwide. This giveaway will run for one week, the winner will be announced here next Saturday at noon central time.
