American Hairdresser 1940

1940s american hairdresser magazine

I have a huge stash of vintage fashion, beauty and craft magazines and I like to share them here before they crumble one day. Here's a look inside American Hairdresser from 1940, a magazine for professionals in the beauty industry.

This magazine is full of beauty shop ads, industry tips and of course, beautiful hairstyle tutorials and inspiration.  I love seeing some of the products and styling gadgets that were used and many are still in use today.

Some of these pin curl sets are absolutely incredible! I love the use of beads, ribbons and other sparkly bits and bobs used to accessorize these styles. Take a look and also check out my past posts of my vintage magazines

  1. Oh, thank you! This must have been what my Mother and her two sisters pored over when they were young women...I have a photograph of the three of them with their hair all done in the pompadour fashions. The three of them were always glamorous (in my eyes). 1940 would have been the year my Mom was eighteen; her sisters 3 and 5 years older than her. This definitely makes me feel nostalgic. As all three are now gone, it's just seeing something like this to get me thinking about their lives. This was definitely a time when beauty was IMPORTANT. Women of that era knew how to always look pulled together, even if they had little money. I love your blog!
