Well, hot dog! I just have to brag a bit about my awesome fabric deal. We went to pick up some buttons and I found some gorgeous tiki print rayon fabric on sale for 70% off. I asked for 5 yards or the whole bolt if there was going to be a remnant. I hate to leave remnants behind because they have to deal with rolling it up, pricing it and all of that. So, the gal behind the cutting counter said "How 'bout you get 4 yards and then you can have the last two for half off the clearance price as a remnant and that remaining 7 inches....what seven inches? I'll just leave it on there for you." Wow, really?! So, I ran off with 6 yards 7 inches of this rayon challis for $15. Thank you, nice lady!
For years, I've wanted to make a tiki dress but haven't found the right fabric for the right price. Today was my lucky day! I'm going to make a dress, matching bolero and little dress for Olivia if I have enough extra. Here's some tiki inspiration........

Lovely fabric and a bargain to boot! The dress you plan to make is stunning, I look forward to seeing the finished garment. I'm currently making a dress from a 1940's Simplicity pattern which I hope to have finished next week :o)

ReplyDeleteAlso...a certain fabric store has done the same thing for me. It leaves me with such a warm, fuzzy feeling....Some of those cutting counter ladies are pretty fantastic.

ReplyDeleteI'm working on a dress with matching jacket I'll wear to a friends wedding in August. It's a fun project, but I'm starting to feel I gave myself a bit too-tight timeframe for it... Ah well, the dress I'll def finish, and then we'll see about the rest =)
LOVE that fabric and this idea! How awesome when things come together! I have a vintage set similar (but more plain) as that Wear It Again Sam one you shown. It's just a great, classic shape! I'm partial to the beach bustier top pattern, there's something about that little fold-over part above the bust that makes things look out of this world.
ReplyDeleteI just started a 40s collared blouse. The pattern has sort of light brown flowers and orange in it, and this post is making me think I should look for little coconut shell buttons for it! :D
