This week's star studded vintage fashion film is The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale and John C Reilly. What a gorgeous and intriguing movie. In 2004, I saw the Aviator in theaters. I wasn't thrilled to see it in the first place because I really didn't know anything about the story beforehand but wow, am I glad I did!

It's the story of the early life of eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes and how his obsession with aviation and film made him a legend. In his battle with obsessive compulsive disorder, Howard Hughes spent millions of his own money to produce his films Hell's Angels, The Outlaw and Scarface. He also bought TWA airlines and set several world records for airspeed with the planes that he built. Howard Hughes was one of the most important Aviators in history.

Howard had many romances with some of the most glamorous ladies of the day including Katherine Hepburn, Ava Gardener and Faith Domergue, making The Aviator a fashion feast for admirers of 20's-40's looks. Oh as a side note, the soundtrack for The Aviator is awesome!

So, I don't know, what do all of you think about Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow? Love it or hate it?

Costumes for the Aviator were designed by Sandy Powell. You may have seen Ms. Powell's amazing costume works in films Interview with the Vampire, Gangs of New York, The Other Boleyn Girl and Shutter Island.
